The other two black wires trigger no response. Based on the photos there are 3 sets of black and white wires. All should be well. I recently had the need to change a light fixture and noticed that the existing light fixture box when opened the fixture uses white cables on both the sides of the fixture instead of one white and the other black. If not write back.
Basement finished few years ago and electrician did all the wiring and gone. The light fixtures may have a green wire which goes to the ground wire or the fixture may also have a copper ground wire so it goes to the ground. The lighting could be added to the three wire cable provided that the circuit breaker is no more than 15 amps and the wire size is no greater than 14 gauge. Attach the ground to the bare or green ground wire if present or to the metal box if no ground wire wire or leave alone if no wire and a plastic box. Attach the white wire from the fixture to the white bundle. If this does work the single white wire should have a black marking on it to show it is sometimes hot.
When i put all 3 black together and all3 white together the light works as long as the switch is in the off position. One set of wires is coming from the breaker box. I have 3 white wires and 3 black wires in a light fixture. Attach the black fixture wire to the single wire. That is the black wire showing 110v.
Connecting a two wire light fixture to a three wire power supply cable is not an ordinary occurrence. Only 1 of the black wires seem to be hot lights up the voltage tester when touching the 3 whites and one black together. The grounds get tied together as well.
