Use a phillips screwdriver to unscrew the mounting screws and bring down the light fixture. Disengage your light from its wires.

How to wire a new light. Strip the last one inch of your new black wire and place all three black wires together. Wiring the new light unscrew the wire nut holding the two black wires together on your existing light. Then insert the other support and bend both arms around the box to tighten the other side. Determine a location for the light switch. You should see plastic caps called wiring caps also called a wire nut with two wires running into each cap. Disengage the wires by twisting the wiring cap until it comes free.
Insert one and bend one leg around the box to draw one side back tight. Place the bare end of the black wire from the cable in the wall with the bare end of the black wire from the light fixture. Connect the neutral white wires with a wire connector. Untwist the fixture wires from the house wiring. Take off the cover and note the color of the wire insulation for the wires that. It is helpful to have someone to hold the fixture as you uncap the wires and remove any electrical tape.
Bend the second arm of the first support around the box. Twist the wire nut onto the three wires to secure them. Remove the old ceiling light. One wire will come from the light the other from the main electrical circuit of your house. Trace the mounting box on the ceiling where the light fixture will be mounted. The box ears should rest tightly against the plaster.
Loosen and remove the screws from the cover for the light switch that operates the light using a screwdriver. From the switch new 2 wire cable is run to the new light location. The switch comes first in the new part of the circuit and new 2 wire cable is run to it from the outlet. Connect the ground wires with a 6 in long pigtail wire leading to the switch. Twist the two ends together three or four times with a pair of pliers. Before doing any electrical work always shut off power to the house at the main breaker.
Loop the black wires clockwise around the screws and tighten the screws. The neutral for the new light is taken from the receptacle and spliced to the new white wire and to a pigtail that connects back to the receptacle. Strip the ends of the wires at the switch box. It should be 48 from the floor. Cut out the traced hole with an oscillating saw.
