If you just want to locate a stud stanleys basic s50 is all you need. But its clear when it finds a stud because a third big light lights up. It features ac detection to detect live wires up to 2 inches below surface material a marking channel and soft grips.

There are 2 stopped on it that light up still havent figured that out. Just press the button and glide the s50 slowly along the wall.
