3 black wires light fixture. I have three pairs of black and white wires plus the additional 2 wires from the fixture making 8 wires in total. I was changing an old ceiling light fixture with a new one. The other two black wires trigger no response. A 3 wire nm connects the traveler terminals of the first and second 3 way switch together. Removing the old fixture i discovered 3 black wire 3 white wires and a ground. While the light works it wont switch off at the switchonly at the breaker.
Three wire supply cables generally carry red and black hot wires of 110 to 120 volts each with a single white neutral wire. Connect the two black wires from the light fixture to the black wire from the electrical box the same way you connected the white wires. Only 1 of the black wires seem to be hot lights up the voltage tester when touching the 3 whites and one black together. Unfortunately i forgot to mark some of the wires from the previous configuration. I connected black to black white to white with the new fixture that had one white one black and one ground. Im currently working on replacing a ceiling light fixture on an older house built 1895 and have stumbled across a problem. Traveler wires are interchangeable on each switch. The black line wire connects to the common terminal of the first 3 way switch. When i put all 3 black together and all3 white together the light works as long as the switch is in the off position. Knowing which wire does what and goes where is imperative not only in the correct configuration of an electrical system but also for your familys safety. The common terminal of the second 3 way switch connects to the light fixtures.
I have 3 white wires and 3 black wires in a light fixture. Light fixtures with more than one lamp may have a pair of black and white wires for each lamp. Connect the two white wires from the light fixture to the white wire located in the electrical box by twisting an orange wire nut onto all three wires. I used your previous advice by pairing the white hot and blacks to the black lamp wire and the two white neutrals to the white lamp wire and the lamp stays on when my light switch is in the off position but as soon as i switch the switch on the breaker blows. These connect to the black and white wires in the electrical box with the provided larger wire nuts. The lighting could be added to the three wire cable provided that the circuit breaker is no more than 15 amps and the wire size is no greater than 14 gauge.
Connecting a two wire light fixture to a three wire power supply cable is not an ordinary occurrence.
